Significance

Satyanarayan Puja is one of the most widely performed pujas across Hindu households. It is a worship of Lord Vishnu in his form as Satyanarayan — the Lord of Truth. This puja is performed on auspicious occasions, after achieving goals, and on Pournima (full moon) to express gratitude and seek continued blessings.

What Happens During the Ceremony?

The Purohit chants the Satyanarayan Katha (story) from the Skanda Purana. A Homa is performed. Prasad (panchamrit, fruits, and the special Satyanarayan Prasadam made of banana, milk, and semolina) is offered and distributed. The entire family and guests participate.
