Jatakarma is performed immediately after birth, before the umbilical cord is cut. It is the first ceremony to welcome the newborn into the world and into the Vedic tradition. The ritual establishes the child's connection with the cosmos, the family lineage, and the divine.

What Happens During the Ceremony?

The father touches the child's lips with a golden spoon dipped in honey and ghee, chanting Vedic mantras. He whispers the Gayatri Mantra into the child's right ear, invoking divine wisdom from birth. Prayers are offered to Prajapati, Indra, and Surya.
